Recycle, Reuse, Renew
The Coffee Ethic desires to be a sustainable enterprising venture. This means that we will always consider and implement processes and purchase products that are reusable, renewable or recyclable.
Current Practices:
- Tables, bar facade, our library door all were made of walnut salvaged from the Ice Storm of 2007
and a tornado in Arkansas. It was solar-kiln dried and processed by Queen City Green which focuses on renewal products. - Our benches are salvaged beams used in the construction of a Cotton Mill in South Carolina in the 1870’s.
- Our chairs are mid-century designer chairs purchased from an antique dealer.
- The main floors are original and have been refinished. Flooring behind the bar, in the bathroom and on the stairs is made of recycled rubber tires.
- Coffee is primarily served in ceramic mugs instead of paper cups. Thereby reducing waste.
- In shop recycling center for separation of recyclables.
- Paper products we source, such as paper towels and toilet paper, are made from recycled paper.
- Our to-go cups use cornstarch instead of petroleum in the lining and are 100% biodegradable and compostable.
- All coffee grounds are bagged and available to our customers for gardening, composting or any other use.
- Use of low VOC paints.
- Low voltage lighting used through out with 100% CFL bulbs in main lighting.
- Programmable thermostats
- Purchase Wind Powered with a goal of being 100% wind powered.
- Sale of Swiss-water decaf process coffee, which uses chemical free process for decaffeinating.
- Use of re-cycled paper and envelops for office use.
- Ink cartridge refills.
- Purchase and use of environmentally friendly cleaning supplies.
